These articals were prepared on behalf of the Dorset, Hants and Wilts Spiritual Healers’ Association, to give some understanding of Spiritual Healing for those to whom it is a new concept, or to help others who misunderstand the practice.
THE NATURE OF SPIRITUAL HEALING
Coming now to the nature of Spiritual Healing. It falls within a natural recognition that each person has three intertwined aspects: body, mind and spirit (or soul). The spirit is the core essence of the living person that continues to live after the body has ceased to function; in "death". It is the Motivating force behind the body and mind and has a directing influence over one's whole being and nature. It is the part of One's Self that has an affinity with the Creative Source, God. The spirit can interrelate with other spirit existence in the other forms, consciously living in realms of life beyond this one, and in particular with the one to which we go after "death" of the body. Those other realms, or "mansions", are where one continues to live and to learn, to experience, to serve; where knowledge is in advance of earthly knowledge. From these realms those who maintain an interest in the welfare of people on Earth can direct help, including medical healing help, to Earth. By processes not known or understood by the earthly mind, healing methods (energies) can be directed to an earthly inhabitant, which then activate the in-borne healing powers of the body that reside within it and the motivating spirit of the person.
During "contact" healing the healing intention flows from the spirit (in the discarnate realms), through the spirit (of the "healer"), to the spirit (of the "patient"). Generally, there is also a feeling of calm that eases away stress and tense emotion. It is known that, in some cases, there are physical effects on, and within, the body similar to those achieved by physical medical practice. Indeed, Spiritual Healing may be an accompaniment to allopathic medicine or the various complimentary practices (but not usually a replacement for them) so as to enhance the healing process. However, there may be a difference as Spiritual Healing acts upon the whole person, body, mind and spirit, not only the body.
With Spiritual Healing there is no physical intervention: no tablets, no drugs, no manipulation, no hypnosis, no mental invasion, no given diagnosis. There is a friendly discussion, a sympathetic ear, time freely given without haste. The "healer" may share common-sense experiences with you, but never instruct, and will in particular wish to cooperate with your medical and/or complementary practitioners and not override their skills and advice.
A "healer's" wish is, with you, to call upon the healing power of the Creative Force, God (or whatever may be your own outlook), to bring benefit appropriate to your needs, both as a physical person and as a spiritual person. The procedure is very simple when one observes its application by a trained "healer", with no complex ritual, no waving of arms or hands, loud invocation, or physical manipulation. With "contact" healing, as with prayer or absent healing, the primary need is for a simple request to God for help in such way as may be needed. The simplest prayer, within oneself, is merely "PLEASE", with no complexities. God knows the problem and the need before it is mentioned. The "healer", acting as an intermediary, puts aside from mind the mundane problems around and turns thoughts to the Creative Source so as to be "tuned in" to the spiritual background and become an open channel for spiritual action: a process called "attunement".
Healing may occasionally produce immediate results, but more often, the process continues for such time as may be needed.
The trained "healer" will have a general understanding of the body's functions, but not in full detail as in medical training; will know how to help you talk about your problems; will develop a personal sympathy with you; will greet you willingly but be pleased when solution of your problems means you no longer need to visit.

Remember to thank the Creative Source, God,
not only the "healer" who is but an instrument of God's Love.
